About the challenge

On September 1, Visko launched Orbis: a Live Model that generates video in real time and responds as the world changes. Now it’s your turn to build with it. In this week-long online challenge, build an application with Orbis that makes real-time video generation part of the user experience. Bring your idea, explore a new use case, and join solo or with a team of up to five people.

Section 01

Setup instructions

  1. 01

    Get the starter code

Fork the starter repository. Read through the README for an explanation of what the code does and how the Orbis integration works.

    Open starter repository
  2. 02

    Create a Reactor account

The Orbis API is hosted by Reactor. Go to reactor.inc to create an account and get a Reactor API key, then copy .env.example to .env.local and add your key. A Gemini API key is only needed for the optional Nano Banana example.* Registered and approved participants will receive $250 worth of Reactor credits for the Orbis API. If you need more credits during the challenge, reach out to us at [email protected]—we may provide additional credits after reviewing your needs.

  3. 03

    Run it locally

Run npm install, then npm run dev. Open http://localhost:3000 to try the reference integration.

  4. 04

    Build anything

The starter is only a reference for integrating the Orbis API—you can use it as a foundation or start fresh. Explore what becomes possible when video is no longer a finished clip, but a world that runs, reacts, and evolves. Build for entertainment, games, retail, education, robotics, media, or a category that does not exist yet.

Judging criteria

  1. 01

    Real-time interaction

Orbis generates video in real time and responds as the world changes. We will evaluate whether your application makes this capability an essential part of the experience.

  2. 02

    Creativity

We will look for an original and compelling use case that pushes beyond conventional video. Show us a new way to apply live generation—whether in entertainment, games, retail, education, robotics, media, or somewhere entirely unexpected.

  3. 03

    Functionality

The prototype should make your idea tangible. Its core interaction should work clearly enough to show why the use case benefits from Orbis, but it does not need to be a polished, reliable, or production-ready application.
